South Africa Launches New Visa Schemes to Boost Film and MICE Sectors
South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs has announced the introduction of two new digital visa categories—STAGES and MEETS—aimed at enhancing the country’s global competitiveness in the film and business events sectors.
The STAGES visa (Screen Talent and Global Entertainment Scheme) is tailored for international film crews and production talent, offering a fully digital application process with expedited turnaround times.
Meanwhile, the MEETS visa (Meetings, Events, Exhibitions and Tourism Scheme) is designed to streamline entry for MICE delegates, cultural groups, and sporting teams attending events in South Africa.
These initiatives form part of a broader effort to modernize South Africa’s immigration system and attract greater investment in tourism and creative industries. They complement the upcoming rollout of the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system and build on the success of the Trusted Tour Operator Scheme, which has facilitated thousands of group visas from key international markets.
Industry stakeholders, including FEDHASA and RX Africa, have welcomed the new visa categories, noting their potential to unlock significant economic opportunities, reduce administrative barriers, and position South Africa as a premier destination for global events and film production.
